When Gina was a teenager, she didn’t believe in herself.
On the outside, she looked like she was coping. But underneath, Gina was carrying self-doubt, anxiety and a fear that she would never be good enough. She found it hard to speak up, hard to believe in herself and hard to imagine a positive future.
In Australia, nearly two in five young people experience mental health challenges, and thousands disengage from school every year because they feel like they don’t belong.
Gina was one of them. Every day, she was losing confidence in who she was and what she could become.
Then Gina joined the Youth Opportunities Personal Leadership Program, and slowly, things began to change.
For the first time, Gina learned practical strategies to manage her mindset, set goals and challenge the negative thoughts holding her back. She discovered how to reflect instead of criticising herself, how to build resilience through setbacks and how to recognise her own strengths.
Most importantly, she began to believe that her future could be different.
As Gina shared:
