Youth Opportunities Welcomes Five New Life Members

Youth Opportunities recently welcomed five new Life Members at a special event celebrating their outstanding contribution to the organisation.

Life Membership recognises individuals whose commitment, generosity and service have helped shape what we do and create lasting opportunities for young people over many years.

‍ This year, we were proud to recognise Michael Whiting, Renee Secomb (posthumously), Peter Carey, Nicky Brand and Matt Fisher.

‘Whether through leadership, expertise, advocacy, fundraising or behind-the-scenes support, our Life Members play an important role in continuously strengthening Youth Opportunities. Their contributions have helped create opportunities for thousands of young people. We are incredibly grateful for their commitment and proud to recognise the lasting impact they have made.’

Michael Whiting‍ ‍

Former Board Member Michael Whiting has made a significant contribution through his leadership, strategic advice and philanthropic support. During his time on the Board and through his professional networks, Michael helped secure substantial funding that has enabled Youth Opportunities to expand its impact. His guidance and generosity have played an important role in strengthening the organisation and creating opportunities for more young people.

‍ ‍

Renee Secomb‍ ‍

A particularly special moment of the event was the posthumous recognition of Renee Secomb, whose contribution to the development of the Personal Leadership Program helped shape the organisation we know today.

Renee joined Youth Opportunities in 2000, helping establish key administrative systems while also delivering training. She played a significant role in the development of program resources, trainer manuals and coaching frameworks, and was instrumental in supporting the ongoing evolution of the Personal Leadership Program. Renee later returned as one of the inaugural members of the Marshman Foundation, continuing her commitment to the organisation and its mission.

‍ ‍

Peter Carey

‍Former Youth Opportunities CE, Peter Carey has been a passionate supporter, advocate and ambassador for Youth Opportunities for more than a decade. From his work in supporter engagement and fundraising to his involvement with scholarship programs, committees, events and media opportunities, Peter has consistently championed the organisation and its vision. His generosity, enthusiasm and willingness to open doors have made a lasting difference.

Nicky Brand

Nicky joined the Board in 2016 as a Director and Deputy Chair, contributing across multiple committees and helping strengthen the quality and impact of the Personal Leadership Program.

A former Manager and Board Member of the Marshman Foundation, Nicky has provided leadership, mentorship and unwavering support to Youth Opportunities over many years. As a donor, volunteer and advocate, she has made a lasting contribution to the organisation and the young people we serve.

‍ ‍

Matt Fisher

‍Since joining the Board in 2016, Matt Fisher has provided invaluable legal, governance and strategic expertise. He has played a key role in guiding significant organisational milestones, including major governance reforms and the transfer of intellectual property that will help secure the future of the Personal Leadership Program. Matt's professional experience and commitment have strengthened Youth Opportunities and positioned the organisation for continued growth.

A Shared Commitment to Young People

We are incredibly proud to welcome our new Youth Opportunities Life Members. While their contributions have taken many different forms, all five recipients share a common belief in the potential of young people and a commitment to helping them thrive.

Their collective efforts have helped strengthen Youth Opportunities, expand our reach and ensure more young people have access to the confidence, skills and support they need to build positive futures.

‍ On behalf of our Board, staff, volunteers, supporters and the thousands of young people whose lives have been impacted by our work, we thank Renee, Peter, Matt, Nicky and Michael and all of our existing Life Members for their extraordinary contributions.
