Youth Opportunities Continues Partnership with Whyalla Steelworks

The apprentices prepare to take on the Apprentice Development Program at Whyalla Steelworks

Following what was a challenging period for the Whyalla community in 2025, we are incredibly proud to be continuing our partnership with Whyalla Steelworks in 2026 to deliver the Apprentice Development Program.

This year, 26 apprentices across seven disciplines will take part in the program, which focuses on building essential enterprise skills that support their growth in the workplace, in their personal lives, and within the wider community.

Running from February to May, the program will once again conclude with a graduation ceremony at the Westland Hotel Motel in Whyalla, celebrating the achievements and development of the participating apprentices.

Whyalla Steelworks is an integrated manufacturing facility encompassing ironmaking, steelmaking, and rolling-mill operations. It is also Australia’s only manufacturer of special-grade billet and steel long products, playing a critical role in delivering nation-building infrastructure, including rail.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to OneSteel Manufacturing for their continued belief in this program and commitment to investing in the next generation of skilled workers.

We are looking forward to another meaningful and impactful year in Whyalla, and to continuing to support apprentices as they grow, contribute, and thrive.
