Developing Habits That Make A Difference

Eagers Automotive Second Year Apprentices with YO Trainer Pasha Shoghi

Hear from Pasha Shoghi, Youth Opportunities Product & Services Manager and Program Trainer;

I recently had the privilege of delivering two workshops with 2nd year apprentices at Eagers Automotive, exploring the theme: “Developing habits of focus and communication to enhance wellbeing.”

Across two two-hour workshops, we explored a range of practical Youth Opportunities tools and strategies, including:

Personal Leadership & Locus of Control
STAR Communication
Understanding Communication Styles (aggressive, passive and assertive)
The IGAP (I've Got A Problem) technique
Defining happiness and making the decision to be happy
Gratitude
The power of 7 Positives

What stood out most wasn't simply what we covered, it was how openly the apprentices engaged with it. They were willing to participate, share their experiences, challenge their thinking and at times, be genuinely vulnerable with one another. That openness created some fantastic conversations and meaningful learning.

The real value of workshops like these is seeing participants recognise that the tools aren't just relevant when they're wearing their work uniform. They can be applied in the workshop, with colleagues and supervisors, with family and friends, and in the everyday challenges life throws at us.

We finished each workshop by sharing lunch together, providing an opportunity to continue the conversations, build connections and reflect on the morning's learning.

A big thank you to the Eagers Automotive team and most importantly, to the apprentices for their openness, energy and willingness to learn.

Developing positive habits early can have a lasting impact, not only on someone's career, but on their wellbeing, relationships and life beyond work.
